Pre or Post Congress Tours

GROOTBOS PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE

Grootbos Nature Reserve, as a sponsor and supporter of the ICZ, is offering a unique exclusive opportunity to conference delegates to experience the astonishing biodiversity of this private nature reserve in the heart of the Cape Floristic Region. Grootbos Private Nature Reserve lies less than 2 hours from Cape Town in the magical Overberg region of the Cape.

The reserve is home to a variety of habitat types including coastal and mountain forests, wetlands, montane, coastal and limestone fynbos. These vegetation types are very localized and house many rare and endemic species. The latest fauna and flora species count for Grootbos includes 830 plant species (including nearly 100 species of conservation concern, with many being rare or local endemics), 195 bird species, 30 mammals, 45 reptiles, 26 amphibians and an exceptionally rich invertebrate fauna.

This terrestrial biodiversity is complemented by a rich ocean fauna and the arrival of Southern Right whales during the months of June through to the end of November. Grootbos is dedicated to researching and conserving this unique and threatened biodiversity as well as to supporting local communities through the work of its non-profit Grootbos Foundation.

As a pre- or post ICZ tour, Grootbos will provide you with a unique experience to discover the diversity of species at Grootbos and learn more about the unique projects to conserve and celebrate this unique landscape.
